Cruiser speaks!

Yesterday we interviewed our reading dog Cruiser on the impact of his reading sessions with our pupils.

Throw another shrimp on the barbie mate....

We have been learning about standard and non-standard English when reading Morris Gleitzman's 'Toad Away'.

Yesterday we investigated word origins and tweeted new verses to John Agard's 'Reporting from the front line of the great dictionary disaster' to our class Twitter feed @lps140club.

Today we have been learning some Australian slang and Gwyrdd and Porffor had a go at writing a conversation between Limpy and Goliath using as much slang as they could. Oh, and prepare for some really bad Aussie accents. They are far from ripper!

Goliath's declaration of war against humans in the style of Winston Churchill

We have been busy writing speeches as Goliath from Morris Gleitzman's 'Toad Away', declaring war on humans. We took inspiration from Winston Churchill's 'fight on the beaches' speech. We also tied to use idioms to enhance the writing.

Winston Churchill + an angry cane toad = war?

Next week we will be writing a declaration of war on the human race by Goliath in Morris Gleitzman’s ‘Toad Away’. We are going to attempt to do this by splicing it with the famous rallying call from Winston Churchill during World War Two in his ‘We will fight them on the beaches’ speech.

How are we going to get on with using that as inspiration for writing a rallying call/declaration of war by cane toads on humans.

What a Wonderful World

This half term our class will be immersing ourselves into the topic ‘What a Wonderful World’. This topic has a geographic focus and teaches children about the geographical and historical significance of the 7 Ancient Wonders and the 7 New Wonders of the world whilst challenging them to think of what would be considered as the 7 Wonders of Wales.

As part of our Literacy Spine author focus, we will be studying the works of Morris Gleitzman and in particular, the novel ‘Toad Away’.

In PE we will be studying Orienteering and on swimming, our class and Year 3/4 will be going swimming to Llantrisant Leisure Centre on Monday mornings. Pupils will need to wear swimming trunks and not shorts (boys) and all in one swim suits not two pieces (girls) along with goggles and hats.
