Next half term we will be studying the Lady of Shalott by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Here is a video of the poem for you to watch and read in preparation. 

Scream Machine - paper roller coasters

We have been studying the topic Scream Machine this term, looking at the science of roller coasters. We have researched roller coasters, rode them 'virtually', written poems and made carts to name but a few of our activities. The culmination of this topic was for our thinking groups to plan, design and make their own paper roller coasters.

Each group had to come up with a theme for their ride and were all given the same sized wooden cuboid frame (however, unfortunately Gwyrdd's broke so an emergency K-Nex one was built!). 

We researched how to make curves, loop the loops and other paper roller coaster features and got busy making!

We invited Year 3/4 to come and evaluate our roller coasters. They were given four questions to consider when viewing each one:

3. Which was the most attractive?
4. Which one worked the best?

Goliath's speech as Winston Churchill! (Toady Away - Morris Gleitzman

We have been studying Morris Gleitzman's Toady Away and in particular, the character Goliath. We loved Goliath's passion and his desire to start a war with humans to avenge the death of his 'rellies'. We have been studying the use of idioms to add interest to writing. We looked at Winston Churchill's 'Fight on the beaches' speech and thought about how we could adapt this for a speech in role as Goliath.

SchoolsFL Fantasy Football Final Positions - 2014-2015

Congratulations to Tilly who has won our SchoolsFL Fantasy Football competition again for a second year running. She finished first with a total points tally of 1186. second place was Mr Clement with a points tally of 1129.

Our First placed parent was Tilly's mum who finished third overall. The leading class team was Year 5/6 who finished just outside the top 10 in 11th.
