Year 6 Leavers - Macbeth the Movie

Tomorrow sees the premier of the Year 6 Leaver's movie - Macbeth which the whole class have been working on for the last few weeks. Here is the trailer for the movie to wet your appetites.

Constable inspired sense poems

After our trip to Cardiff Museum and Gallery to participate in a workshop called 'Nature's Cathedral' we wrote sense poems inspired by the painting 'Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows'.

We had written poems from our initial responses at looking at the painting before the trip and now we wanted to write some new ones, armed with the knowledge gained from our trip.

Y Pant Cluster Cross Country Event 3 - Llanharan

The third and final Y Pant Cluster Cross Country competition was held at our own school on Thursday 19th June. The class helped design the courses and we measured and set them up. We welcomed just over a 100 pupils from seven primary schools within the cluster.

Year 5/6 Boys 
Charles led this race for the majority of the competition, just been overtaken on the homes straight finishing in second. Our school's first three finishers ensured a joint second place overall with the second three placing in 6th out of the 6 teams to qualify for a team position.

Year 5/6 Girls
The girls team was hit by a number of pull outs before the event. Our lead runner Gracie finished in 4th out of the 20 finishers.

Year 3/4 Boys
In terms of entrants, this was the most popular race. Our lead runner in this event was Keegan who managed to finish in 12th out of 35 runners.

Year 3/4 Girls
The year 3/4 girls saved their best performance of the year for our home event. Our lead runner was Farrah in 5th and the first three finishers earned a second place in the team scores.

'Nature's Cathedral' trip to Constable display at Cardiff Museum

We visited Cardiff Museum and Gallery today to take part in a workshop entitled 'Nature's Cathedral'. This workshop was based on the work of art 'Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows' by Constable which is on display at the museum until September.

Prior to the trip the class have been looking at the painting without being told anything about the piece or the artist who painted it. We then recorded responses to the painting and the feelings evoked by looking at it and then wrote a poem based on the feelings and questions that were prompted by the painting.

The workshop saw the class work with an artist to create a 3D structure out of bamboo inspired by Salisbury Cathedral which is the centre piece of the painting. The class were really impressed to hear the workshop's organizer, Stephanie reading out parts of their poem after she had listened to them on the blog.

We then worked in groups to make cubes and cuboids modeled on a plan out of bamboo, willow and masking tape. These were then combined into one large structure which took the shape of the cathedral. The pupils were then asked to make representations of nature that they could attach to the cathedral to represent the nature around it. Finally the lights were turned off and a rainbow was projected onto a screen behind the structure. The effect was quite impressive and the children loved seeing their combined efforts take the form of the painting that they had been studying.

Tomorrow we will be writing senses poems based on the piece of art after finding out more of the back story today.
