We have now found out which parties will be standing in our constituency of Ogmore in the forthcoming general election. The parties are: Conservatives, Labour, Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and UKIP.
Yesterday we watched all of the party political broadcasts from these parties. After watching every broadcast, we wrote down how they made us feel; whether they were positive or negative; what persuasive techniques they used and whether they would make us vote for the parties.
Here are some of our thoughts:
Conservatives:
How did it make you feel?
"Bored and makes me not want to vote for her."
"Positive, emotional - it was awesome."
"They seemed too determined."
"Made me feel happy, proud and emotional."
"Confused because I didn't think she would say these things."
Would it make you vote for them?
"Yes, because it sounded like she would make amends to the country."
"Yes because she would lead this place well."
"Yes because she spoke well."
"Yes because there was a lot of positiveness."
"No because there weren't any bright coulours. It made me feel like I was in a meeting."
Labour:
How did it make you feel?
"Angry because it was not believable."
"Emotional, happy and sad."
"Ashamed because it was stated that we could only trust Labour."
Would it make you vote for them?
"Yes because it stated that the Conservatives were horrible."
"Yes because they would help the police and hospitals."
"No because they were being mean to the Conservatives."
"No because they were just being negative."
"No.Why couldn't Corby speak for himself."
Liberal Democrats:
How did it make you feel?
"Annoyed because it was the same over and over again."
"I felt bored."
"It made me feel confused."
"Bored because it didn't show much information about their party."
Would it make you vote for them?
"No because there was too much negativity."
"No because I didn't know what they would do for us."
"No because they were being mean to Theresa May."
"Yes because they were not being negative."
Plaid Cymru:
How did it make you feel?
"Happy because they seemed nice and they would defend our country."
"Happy because at least someone is standing for Wales."
"It made me feel proud."
"Confident because it showed a lot of benefits to public services."
Would it make you vote for them?
"No because it didn't contain much for children."
"Yes because they seemed confident."
"No because they were being mean to Labour."
"Yes because it was very persuading for their party."
UKIP:
How did it make you feel?
"Happy because they would defend our country."
"I didn't like it at all."
"Ashamed."
"It made me proud."
"Devastated because it didn't seem to care about children."
Would it make you vote for them?
"No because it didn't show it cared much about people."
"Yes because they sound like a good party to stand for."
"Yes because they didn't trash talk."
"No because they were saying they were better than everyone else and they were all rubbish."
"Yes because it was a good advert."
We took a vote at the end of the session on who they would vote for based purely on the advert.
The results were:
UKIP - 41%
Labour - 19%
Liberal Democrats - 19%
Conservatives - 15%
Plaid Cymru - 7%
