Homework
Studyladder has upgraded recently and have made it slightly more confusing! Rather than individual set tasks we now can only set 'pods'. I am not expecting pupils to complete every task per pod as it will include some aspects that we have not yet covered.
The Pods set tonight are:
Year 6:
Fractions and decimals
I would like the following activities completed this week:
Compare to a half
Compare and order fractions
Adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator 1
Year 5:
Fractions and decimals
I would like the following activities completed this week:#
Modelling equivalent fractions
Counting on fractions
Tenths and hundredths

Displacement of liquids - Coca Cola and Mentos
As part of our Potions topic we investigated the reactions Mentos being added to Coca Cola have. We then tested our measuring accuracy to see which type of Coca Cola displaces the most liquid.
Our Dependent Variable:
Which Coca Cola Brand displaces the most liquid when Mentos are added?
Our Independent Variable:
We will change the type of Coca Cola
Our Controlled Variables:
We are going to keep the following the same:
All 1.75l bottles, same amount of Mentos (4), same shape bottle, same person inserting the Mentos, uniform measuring cylinders. We will do this to keep it a fair test.
We carried out the tests and then recorded the measurements in class.
Cherry Coke
Coca Cola Life
Coca Cola Vanilla
Coca Cola Zero
Coca Cola
Diet Coke

RSPB Bird Cakes
As part of our Potions topic and with the RSPB bird watch for schools being able to be carried out right now, we have been investigating Bird Cakes. As part of a science investigation we gathered a range of ingredients which would appeal to birds such as; meal-worms, cheese, raisins, dried fruit, sultanas, wild seed and peanuts as well as lard.
We wanted to investigate the questions, "Which ingredients would appeal best to birds?". Each group had a cup, a mixing bucket, lard and three chosen ingredients. We had to make sure that we didn't all have the same ingredients so we used a dice and took it in turns to choose with only a set amount of each available.
We then made predictions on which would be the most successful after we studied the energy and fat contents on the packet. We thought that the greater the energy and fat content the better the chance of attracting birds.
We poked a hole in the cups and strung a knotted string through it. We then cut the lard into small cubes and added into the bowl. We then tipped our individual ingredients into the bowl and mixed it up with our hands. Finally we pressed the fat ball into the cups and made sure they were solid and secure. They will now be placed in the fridge over night to solidify. We will hang them out tomorrow and start recording.

Romeo and Juliet Blurbs
We have been creating blurbs for Romeo and Juliet after learning about the main elements of the play in a drama session which looked at the Prologue. We used book creator to create our front covers and blurbs.
