IntoFilm Festival 2018

Today we took part in the awesome IntoFilm Fesitval. We were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to allow all children from Years 4, 5 and 6 to visit a cinema to watch one of the films being shown as part of the festival. We visited the Odeon cinema in Sarn, Bridgend to watch a film with a personal link to our school.

On Tuesday 20th March this year, we were incredibly fortunate to be treated to an industry visit from IntoFilm, who arranged for Aardman animations to come to our school. Jim Parkyn, a senior model maker from Aardman came into our class to talk to use about animation and model making and then held a workshop into making a model of Hognob from their Early Man movie. Jim even left his model of Hognob for us in school.

With this in mind, there was only one possible film from the IntoFilm Festival list that we had to go to see. We decided that we had to complete the cycle and take Hognob back to see himself on the big screen.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the film and the experience of visiting a cinema with all of our classmates and friends.

Llanharan War Memorial research

As part of our topic looking at the First World War, our Year 5 & 6 class has been researching the names of the soldiers who fell in World War One and are listed on the Llanharan War Memorial.

We used the internet, historical documents and put a request for information in the Diary. We received emails, phone calls and letters from relatives of names listed on the memorial.

We have compiled our information and put them together on a video, showing our research. The pupils chose royalty free music that they thought would be appropriate for the content matter.

We wanted to share this research with the community, as we believe that these 20 men need to be remembered.

The Highwayman predictions...from Fleetwood Mac!

We are starting our new author focus looking at Alfred Noyes 'The Highwayman'. Instead of looking at the poem, we watched the video from Fleetwood Mac's 1987 song 'Everywhere' which is based on the poem.

We watched the video once all the way through and then a second time, stopping at points the pupils thought were important or interesting.

Then we wrote what we thought the story was about based on what the events of the video gave us.

Here are some of our efforts:
